Garry Parsons

Hi! I'm Garry.

I'm thrilled to have joined the Picture Book Den team and I'm looking forward to sharing some of my thoughts about illustration, drawing and picture books.

Originally trained as a painter, my career in art moved towards animation and then illustration following a Masters Degree in Sequential Design. My illustration career started with editorial images for magazines and newspapers until my first children's book publication with Random House. Since then I've been incredibly fortunate to have worked with some brilliant authors on some fantastic titles. Here are few...
Illustrating for children's books regularly gets me into schools and festivals and gives me a chance to speak directly to children and do some 'live' drawing for them which I love.
This picture is author Josh Lacey with Ipswich Book Group at the Ipswich Film Theatre. You can have a lot of fun with an on screen visualiser and a marker pen.

I'm still fascinated by drawing and love to draw and paint for pleasure outside of commissioned book illustration. I often carry a tin of coloured pencils and an A3 cartridge pad and set to drawing the landscape.

I also indulge my fine art appetite by making 'paper cuts' and screen prints like this one pictured here, some of which are giant in size.
